Newport East Is Above Average in Higher Education
Recently released figures from the Department for Children, Schools and Families show that since 1997 Newport East has seen an increase (above the national average) in young people starting an undergraduate course in a UK higher education institution. The figures show that across the UK there was an average increase of 25%, while Newport East saw an increase of 32%. Read more
Opportunity for small local companies to access business opportunities
Small businesses in the local area are being encouraged to sign up to the government's Supply2.gov.uk website, so they can take advantage of tendering for government contracts as soon as they are available. Jessica Helps Launch A New Newport Development
Jessica visited the new George Wimpey show appartment and sales office for the City Vision development which comprises more than 400 apartments. Jessica learnt that the oval shaped design was inspired by the site's nearest neighbours, The Dragons, Newport's rugby team.
Parkinson's Disease - Cwmbran
To help publicise the awareness of Parkinson's disease, Jessica joined the Parkinson's Disease Society Newport branch at their stall in Cwmbran to highlight Parkinson's disease week. She helped local branch members give out leaflets and information packs, and to urge people to support the society's research into a cure for the terribly debilitating disease.

Jessica Morden MP today praised the decision to keep Christchurch Road Post Office open and congratulated all those who joined the campaign to save this important local Post Office.

Newport East MP was on hand to meet the Mole Watch Clinic's mascot 'Mole' and support this important campaign. The friendly mole was in Parliament to encourage MPs to raise awareness amongst young people of the SunSmart Campaign which aims to help reduce skin cancers linked to exposure to the sun. Newport Welsh Refuge Council Welcomed to Westminster
Jessica Morden MP recently welcomed a group from the Newport members of the Welsh Refugee Council to Westminster. The group, which consisted of refugees and staff, wanted to describe to Jess a refugee's typical day and some of the procedural issues they face when applying for citizenship.
Jessica said "I was pleased to meet and discuss issues with the refugees and staff of the Welsh Refugee Council. I feel it is important that we hear from the people going through the immigration process and understand what they have experienced and ways the service can be improved."
