Llanwern Hot Strip Mill Mothballed 02 December 2011

Jessica was informed this morning that due to poor consumer demand Tata steel was going to mothball the hot strip mill at Llanwern, until the UK economy and steel demand, generally, recovered. This means 115 jobs will be lost, on top of the 70 job losses announced a couple of months ago.

Jessica said “This is grim news for workers and their families, especially following on so closely to the 70 jobs lost when they announced the closure of Tata Steel Construction Products last month.

It’s a tough time for the Steel Industry we need an immediate growth strategy from the Tory Government, I’ll be raising the issue with Ministers in Parliament on Monday.”
